The Email Scan Feature
The Email Scan Feature
The Email tab contains several options for recovering email. You can either scan the default email client, scan a specific email profile, or select a specific data file to scan.
Default Email Client Scan Option
To scan the default client, click the Scan the Default Client button and the click the Start Scan button. If your email client is currently running, you will be prompted to close it.
The email scanner will detect and display any email files that are available for recovery.
The Scan a Specific Email Profile Option
Choosing a specific profile is useful when more than one person uses the Microsoft Outlook email client. You can select the specific profile so that Data Recovery Pro will only search for relevant emails.
You will need to use this option if Outlook used more than one profile and you want to scan one of the profiles rather than the default profile. Outlook stores emails in PST files. You will need to select a file displayed in the Microsoft Outlook PST Files field found at the bottom of the Email page. PST, or Personal Storage Table, files are common to certain Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Outlook. Message emails, calendars and other items are stored in the .pst file. You can have more than one .pst file per copy of Outlook.
DBX files, files with a .dbx file extension, are common to Microsoft Outlook Express. All message emails from each folder are stored in the .dbx file along with a structure of newsgroups, mail folders, and some synchronization data.
To scan a specific email profile, click the Scan a Specific Profile button, select an item in the Microsoft Outlook PST Files field, and click the Start Scan button.
Email Scan will detect any email files in the selected profile that are available for recovery.
The Select a Specific Data File Option
Occasionally, you may want to specify a particular email data file such as a .pst file or a .dbx file. For example, this option is ideal for recovering data files that are stored on backup or on an external drive.
To recover PST or DBX files simply click the Scan a Specific Data File button, click on the Select PST/DBX button, locate the file that you want to scan, and click the Start Scan button.
The Email scanner will detect and display any email files in the selected data file that are available for recovery.
