The Advanced Scan Feature
The Advanced tab features numerous options that you can set for a more targeted search including the ability to specify Areas to Scan (Recycle Bin, Unnamed Files, Bad Sectors, and Old Partitions), Mounted Or Un-Mounted Media, and Text Search.
Areas to Scan
This option allows you to specify which parts of the disk to search which can dramatically speed your results if you know which area the files you want are located in. For example, if you want to recover a temporary file, you would click Unnamed Files to search for files that haven't been named yet through the "Save" process.
Mounted and Un-mounted Media
Data Recovery Pro can search your hard disk as well as un-mounted media. For example, if you have an MP3 player that you'd like to recover data from (such as deleted songs), connect your MP3 player to your computer and find it in the list of mounted drives. To speed operations, you might want to un-check the main hard drive so that the scanner only scans the connected device.
The scanner will show a list of all files found on the MP3 Player. Below, you can see numerous songs found in the MP3 Player's System\Music folder.
Un-mounted media can include file systems previously connected to your computer system but are not longer currently available for read and write operations. For example, an un-mounted drive can include dual boot systems and non-allocated drive space. If you want to recover data from un-mounted drives, make sure that Un-Mounted Media is enabled.
Text Search
The Text Search tool is useful if you know exactly what you are looking for. For example, if you need to recover a recipe that you accidentally deleted and you enter relevant keywords such as "yams," Data RECOVERY Pro will deliver targeted results.
Here, the keyword "yams" has been entered. The Text Search tool will now scan the disk for files containing the word "yams" and display the results.
The file in question was found. By hovering the mouse over the file titled "Yummy Yams.doc" a preview pops up confirming the contents of the file.
To recover any file found in any of the different types of scans, all you need to do is place a checkmark in the box by the file name and click the "Recover" button.
Windows Explorer will open directly to the Recovered Items folder where you will see your recovered files, including the recently recovered one.
